'Insurgent' by Veronica Roth

Back from our holiday! I was able to finish 3 books - here is the first:

Insurgent, Veronica Roth (3.5)
Oddly, I enjoyed this second book in the Divergent series more than the first. While the main character, Tris, is still a bit predictable and clueless, she has progressed to be a reluctant leader. It follows immediately from the end of ‘Divergent’, the dystopian future in which everyone is divided into a faction that represents his or her main affectation (honesty, selflessness, bravery, peacefulness, intelligence)– which is presumed to keep society balanced. After one of the factions has taken matters into their own hands and dominated the others, Tris and Four are determined to stop their killing. They spend time with other factions and the factionless (those who get kicked out of a faction) to find out what is happening and come up with a plan to stop it.  Throughout the book you are not sure who to trust and what motivates the characters, particularly the adults. Tris continues to battle her grief and guilt, though she felt stronger than in the first book. There are a lot of good twists and reveals, and I was happy that most made good sense. The ending answered a few questions and set up the third and final novel, which is due out in October.
